Sixth Woman’s Body Found in KwaThema as Ekurhuleni Murders Mount

Police have confirmed the discovery of a sixth woman’s body this morning in KwaThema, Springs, intensifying fears across Gauteng as investigators continue to probe a string of violent deaths in the region. The victim was found on the roadside in an open area, partially clothed and bearing visible injuries. Her identity has not yet been established.  

This latest discovery comes just one day after another woman’s body was recovered under a bridge in Olifantsfontein, and three days after the remains of Kempton Park runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo were found behind a Rhodesfield hotel. Moselakgomo’s family confirmed her identity earlier this week, making her the fourth victim in the series.  

Since mid‑July, six women have now been found dead in Ekurhuleni. While the cases share troubling similarities—such as the state of undress, signs of assault, and isolated dump sites—police have emphasized that it is premature to conclude these murders are the work of a single serial killer. National spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe stated that investigators are pursuing multiple leads and treating each case with equal urgency, but cautioned against speculation until forensic results are finalized.  

The growing number of victims has sparked outrage and panic among residents in Kempton Park, Rhodesfield, Olifantsfontein, and now KwaThema. Community groups have begun organizing patrols and demanding stronger police presence. Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has promised that the multi‑disciplinary task team—including detectives, forensic specialists, crime intelligence, and metro police—will intensify its work in the coming days.  

SAPS has urged women to avoid traveling alone in isolated areas, particularly near the R21 freeway, Rhodesfield hotel back routes, and secluded spaces in KwaThema and Olifantsfontein. The investigation remains a top priority, with forensic experts working to link DNA evidence, vehicle tracks, and witness statements across all six crime scenes.
