🚨 Bafana Mahungela Found Guilty: Teacher Kirsten Kluyts’s Killer Faces Life Behind Bars

Johannesburg — 11 September 2026  

The Johannesburg High Court has convicted Bafana Mahungela of the brutal murder of Sandton teacher Kirsten Kluyts, who was 14 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.  

Judge Ian Cox delivered the verdict, finding Mahungela guilty on charges of murder, attempted rape, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and defeating the ends of justice. The 23‑year‑old former Varsity College student represented himself during the trial, but the court rejected his denials and pointed to surveillance footage showing him leaving the crime scene wearing Kluyts’s T‑shirt.

Mahungela reacted angrily to the verdict, claiming he had been “tricked” by the judicial process. He told the court:  

 â€śI was standing for myself under your care, and here I am guilty of all charges… How am I sure that when I come again here, I am not going to be tricked?”  

The victim’s family, seated in the gallery, embraced quietly as the judgment was read.
