💥 Mapisa‑Nqakula Explosive Court Drama: Dollar Bribe Denied, Wig Mystery Deepens!

 Pretoria — 9 September 2026

Nosiviwe Mapisa‑Nqakula testifies in the Pretoria High Court during her corruption trial, denying allegations of foreign‑currency bribes and cash payments.

South Africa’s former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa‑Nqakula delivered fiery testimony today in the Pretoria High Court, rejecting claims that she pocketed foreign‑currency bribes and cash hidden in wigs.

Facing 12 counts of corruption and one of money laundering, Mapisa‑Nqakula denied receiving a $10 000 payment (≈R150 000) allegedly linked to her 2018 U.S. trip. She insisted she relied solely on official government allowances.

The State alleges she accepted R4.5 million in cash and foreign‑currency transfers from defence contractor Nombasa Ntsondwa‑Ndhlovu between 2016 and 2019. Prosecutors claim the payments were disguised as allowances, with coded references like “wigs” used to conceal bribes.

Mapisa‑Nqakula dismissed the wig allegation outright, saying: “It was just a wig, nothing more.”

Judge Mashudu Munzhelele previously ruled that the prosecution had presented a prima facie case, forcing Mapisa‑Nqakula to mount a full defence. Today’s proceedings highlighted the strain of the trial, with the court adjourning early after she appeared visibly fatigued.

🌍 Political Fallout

The trial has ignited debate about corruption in Parliament and the Defence Ministry. The ANC has distanced itself, stressing respect for judicial processes. Analysts warn the case could erode public trust in senior government institutions.

⏭️ What’s Next

The trial resumes tomorrow, with Mapisa‑Nqakula expected to face further cross‑examination. A verdict is anticipated later this month, depending on the pace of proceedings .
